Edmonton to Toronto train 104 operating on CP's north line crosses the Assiniboine River valley on the tortuous Bredenbury Sub. with 3 valley crossings, Little Saskatchewan at Minnedosa, Birdtail at Birtle and the Assiniboine west of Binscarth. The Little Saskatchewan and Assiniboine involve 2% grades dubbing the subdivision Manitoba's mountain railroad. At the time CP couldn't make up its mind to operate this train via the north line or via Calgary and the main.
