On this particular morning I woke at 5:30 am to photograph CP 234 with CP 7023 leading.  As I headed back for my parents home I had a feeling I should continue on to Brantford.Upon reaching Brantford I found CN 580 putting away their power in the yard due to all 3 yard units running out of fuel!  This forced them to call on CN 1439 which had been set off by 435 the night prior.After a conversation with the train master it was determined that they would use 1439 until the fuel truck came and then they would have to set up 1439 to be lifted again tonight by 435 out of town.It happened folks, but just for 4 hours.

  1. So 1 unit to do 3 units work? Did 1439 pull off the rest of the job? Good story. Another nice GMD-1 too!

  2. Ever since CN has taken back the Hagersville Sub they tend to use anywhere from 2-4 units in the yard for switching because that is what they have on hand. Prior to the take back, CN would use a single unit.

    1439 performed all yard switching duties that morning but never got out onto the mainline. The crew reportedly didn’t like the ride or pulling power of 1439 for their work. So it is understandable that it was short lived.
