SUPER CONTINENTAL SUNDAY - After arriving in Vancouver the previous day on the Canadian, the photographer and his now fiancée prepare to board VIA # 4, the Eastbound Super Continental to work their way back to Newfoundland. This trip was part of a long planned rail journey to celebrate his graduation from Memorial University and a proposal of marriage in the Rockies at the same time. Delighted to see that the head end power that day was 6312, originally built in March of 1957 as 6523 but rebuilt in December of 1984 with the new number and designation. This classic engine would later be sold to Ontario Southland and changed to 1401. Wanting to ride as many different VIA routes as possible on their month long journey, they were waitlisted for a sleeper for nearly six months and learned just weeks before departure that space had opened up, such was the demand at the time for # 4.
