Incoming and outgoing crews greet each other as CP #142 pulls into the #2 yard track in Smiths Falls. The crews will work together to expedite the train's set out and pick up from the east yard.

With class unit 7000 leading 7021 in the Army Arid Regions tribute scheme, the power was already pretty interesting, but with CMQ 3816 idling in the yard, the scene was even more diverse. Apparently the CMQ "GP38-3M" appeared overnight.

  1. Is the ‘M’ on the CMQ unit…the rebuild to do with the nose? It looks to me like it points down something like a GP20 nose. Nice catches.

  2. The nose is original – I think. This unit was originally a GP35, and at least one phase of these had that slope on the nose.

    I’m no expert on these rebuild designations, but I believe the “M” is either for “Modified” or “reManufactured” because the GP35 was upgraded to GP38 specs, and the -3 indicates an upgrade in the electronics.

    If anyone has a correction or more detail I’d also be interested to hear.
