In the heart of the Holland Marsh, the GTR built Barrie Commuter train stop - pre GO Transit

at Mile 41.5 CN Newmarket Sub., Bradford, July 4, 1982 Kodachrome by S.Danko

 what's interesting:

the Barrie Commuter train survived the 1981 VIA Rail service cuts * ( that eliminated 20% of VIA network) , the VIA replaced by the first GO train ( Bradford as terminus) September 7 1982 (per wikipedia) [ * the draconian 1990 VIA service cuts eliminated more than half of the VIA network ] and the station is in GO service today.

Perhaps the CN Bradford operator worked when deemed necessary? Traffic likely sufficient: the local freight and daily VIA & ONR trains # 1, 2, 121, 123 ( Fri Sun), 146, 147. The latter two the ex CN weekday Barrie commuters.

Most freight was routed on the Bala Subdivision, however I am aware that several times , the ONR pellet train operated southbound on the Newmarket – but whether this was on an exception basis is unknown

at far right note the fruit / veggie temperature controlled box cars.
