I liked Adam Peltenburg's comment (#44648) about behind every photo there is a story. So true. Some are boring; some are hilarious or reasonably interesting, but very few are actually written with the photo captions. My story here comes under "boring" but might be useful to the wanderers of the north.
In previous years I enjoyed going to Cartier, up there north of Sudbury. The guys were nice and the station was always open. However, new mobiles were installed a few hundred yards from the old station, which now designated Historical; so I don't know what goes on there any more. Probably more secure.
Trains leaving to go north were often worth the chase to Benny, where the tracks cross Hwy 144; which is the location of this photo. Northbounds at Cartier, due to sun angle, were a bad shot in the morning, but as you see here not bad at all at the crossing.
Upon reaching Benny, about 10 minutes North of Cartier, the road dips down and you can see the 'pond' and the crossing. There is also a driveway on the right to what I think is a hydro installation. However, that 'road' continues a hundred and fifty feet or so farther, down to the water's edge. A nice quiet hiding place. Bring out the lawnchair, relax, and watch trains go by. Thats what I did on this occasion.
So, almost at the crossing we see CP 8767, 8574, 9680, 9646 and 9615. Dull power, but a nice scene.
