Caption: I am the head end brakeman on a work train running as train 808 from Foleyet to Capreol, with GP9s 4578 and 4591 for power. Here we are holding the main line at Stackpool for a meet with westbound train 307, with GP9s 4508 and 4516 for power. We set most of the train, boarding and supply cars, off at Westree, a couple of empty flat cars at Stupart, and ran caboose hop the rest of the way to Capreol. On duty in Foleyet at 0445 and off duty in Capreol at 1505, paid 174 way freight miles and made $34.33. Those were the days!

$34.33? Was that considered a good wage in 1969? I hired on in 1981 and I still have the job application where is asked how much money did I expect to make a week.. LOL silly me put down $250 per week.
Forced into Sudbury Yard when I hired on that summer, I grossed about $265 per pay and later on the mainline made about $375 per pay. Our rates of pay per 100 miles were: Freight-18.91; Way Freight-19.73; Passenger-12.48; Baggageman-12.71; Yard-26.07. Seems like I always had money in my pocket back then, so I guess those were pretty good rates of pay.
