CP TH11 has finished their switching at the north end of Kinnear Yard, and is now backing through the yard so they can access the belt line. I thought it was interesting getting CP 3042 beside UP 3041. The UP ran solo on a rack train to Welland Tuesday night, and apparently came back light to Kinnear, where it has sat ever since. I like SD70AH-T4s, and figured I'd have to railfan the UP somewhere to see one. I sure didn't think I'd see my first UP SD70AH-T4 at Kinnear!

  1. They worked Aberdeen on their way south to Welland too, likely grabbing slab empties. A good bet they likely brought slab loads back north as well. Neat to see – TH11 is a nice touch.

  2. Interesting. I assume the slabs come in all the NS, CSXT, etc. gons; there was a lengthy cut of them at Kinnear. Thanks James.

  3. Yup, you’ve got it. Coming in on both NS and CSX, and by all accounts has made quite the mess of things in Aberdeen, Kinnear and Welland. Been some interesting oddities lately as a result of it all, like this UP unit, the ACU that spent a week and a half providing horsepower for a shorthanded TH31 (and also ran solo as an “extra road switcher” Ham-Welland turn one night moving slab empties and loads), several T50s, extra yard jobs, a TE11 in Welland that ran with two GEs, and a day the other week that saw two 254s and a 255. Even the relatively recent reintroduction of a third yard shift is a direct result of the slab traffic as well. Fun times on the Hamilton Sub. :)

  4. Nice catch Rob !
