For a young railman, these were the days. I didn't see much SOO Line early on but certain trains like 501 and 511 were very good candidates for SOO power, and after the IMRL spin off 511 was a good option for IMRL run through power. For years Hornby was my go to spot for CP as trains stormed out of the dip and working in Milton for over 20 years certainly helped too. It was a good spot for aviation fans as well, often catching planes on final approach for the north runway at Pearson, such as in this photo if you look closely. It is sad that the nice wide open shot here has been destroyed by urban sprawl but I'm glad I spent lots of years shooting here. This is probably my favourite shot from 5th Line even with the power lines in the background, the nice spring flowers and a trio of SOO SD60's totally made the shot. I miss all that SOO power, could sure use it these days. The SD60's were always a nice treat to catch, it is so rare to catch them around here these days, especially in sets.

  1. I don’t know about 5th but 6th remains a viable photo spot today :) loved those SOO 60s!
