Caption: Seen in it's original paint scheme (post 1951-52 rebuild from CNR 15834), CNR D-1 and trailers C-1, C-2 roll along the Milton Sub near Burlington, likely having just crossed old Highway 25 (note wig wags and traffic in the distance). Within the year, D-1 would receive a new paint job as seen in this 1958 photo, as well as an additional window at the centre of the cab, and new headlights. Note the early version of the CNR maple leaf logo. Images of this scheme an logo can be found back to 1948, though the year of introduction remains unknown. Anyone?
This location proved a challenge to find, as the slide was simply marked "near Hamilton." After looking over 1954 air photo of Southern Ontario, and comparing this to google maps, sun angles, and with a 1956 timetable I believe the location to be along the Milton Sub (single track) and between the curve near the Guelph Line crossing and the curve at Walkers Line. The 1954 aerial shows little foliage around the crossing though, which leaves one location, a crossing, now long gone, just east of Guelph Line that would be located roughly where the Burlington Leon's is located. The 1954 aerial labels it as Highway 25, though today that would be farther east from here, presumably relocated/renumbered over time. The return trip at this location would be under the cover of darkness, making this the morning trip, train 660 to Georgetown. Further train numbering information under 1958 photo linked above.
