A late return of the Mixed train in daytime (about 8 hours late here) produced a grand opportunity to catch these elephants in sunshine. The tailend cars consisted of Baggage 7855, Coach 5099 and the old NAR Comboose 78966. Photo taken at mile 27.7 at 9:30.

  1. Elephants indeed!!! Very nice. :)

  2. Thanks Joe. :-)
2 or so years prior to this date, almost any of the F units could be expected to drive through town. By the end of 85 it was down to just a handful of regular A units. In short time, I will need to check actual dates, it boiled down to just the 9167 and a bunch of B units. Not often did those remaining get put together in any sort of set. The end came much quicker than I expected. From the photos I have seen here, they had one last hurrah in Hamilton I believe, in 86, steel trains I think.

  3. Beautiful consist! Love the paint scheme when applied to the F units.

  4. Oh my goodness.

  5. I loved the stripes on the passenger F units. The whole train looked great in the black and off white. Thanks guys. :-)

  6. You’re batting a 1000 on this one. Good stuff. :)

  7. Your comment got me to read through my old notes more thoroughly. This was perfectly timed. Just purchased a few weeks previous was a new Canon camera and a 2nd hand VW beetle for chasing. All bought right in time, as this is the only instance that 3 F’s went by in this formation. A couple of others were close with a beetle B unit replacing one of the A’s, but never this again. :-)
The biggest luck was having this come home at 9:30 in daylight, rather than the typical 1 or 2 o’clock in the morning.
