Caption: Not the best quality photo, as this was scanned from a somewhat grainy 35mm B&W film exposure, but here's CPR D10g 896 (a CLC-built 4-6-0, built March 1911, scrapped by CPR Angus in October 1957) near the end of its career, heading up a short local freight on the Scarborough Industrial Spur during March of 1956. The train has just come off CP's Belleville Sub at Mile 201.36 (note the mainline running in the background on the embankment) and is about to cross Warden Avenue at-grade. The houses in the background are off Dalecliff Crescent, built only a few years earlier during the post-war suburban Scarborough boom. Much of the area was still undergoing transition from rural/agricultural to suburban and industrial (see the 1957 aerial here), and the line ran along some empty stretches where industrial warehouses and factories would later be built (some with private sidings for rail service). Customers around Warden Avenue serviced by rail at the time appear to be two lumber yards, and a construction aggregate site.
