Rare Mileage!

On this cool overcast October afternoon, CP T10-16 is on the Oshawa GM spur in the middle of picking up multiple cuts of stored empty autoracks that were in the yard for the past month or so. Power for the job is a pair of GEs finest, one on home rails and another belonging to CSX. The train would later become a 241 after returning to Toronto Yard with the empties.

The spur this train is on exists to service the massive GM Plant in Oshawa, and historically saw quite a lot of activity on a weekly basis from the CP. A few years back, GM had announced the closure of the plant in favour of one in Mexico. It’s been an ongoing battle from the public to keep the plant alive for the past few years, and recently I believe GM agreed to start producing a limited amount of cars at the facility once again. Although this particular movement was solely for bringing autoracks out of storage, there might be a bright future for this spur moving forward. Only time will tell!

  1. Liam, nice to see CP’s Oshawa GM plant spur back in use. It I used to in constant use. John
