As of November 3, 2021; CN had assigned GP40-2L(W)'s 9416, 9449 and 9639 to Kitchener, which were used daily on the three assigned locals from the terminal. Twenty-five years earlier these units were the backbone of the company’s mainline power and were rarely used in local service.

A fitting example shows CN 145 rolling beneath the famed Dundas Peak with GP40-2L(W)’s 9446 and 9638 bracketing still new SD75I 5636 as they head westbound to Sarnia and at the time through the newly constructed tunnel to the US.
