Caption: AC FPA 1752, formerly VIA 6511, waits at the Hawk Jct for passenger exchange to be completed before moving off southward to Sault Ste. Marie. Generally it was about a 15 minute layover here, which gave time to get any necessary photos.
This view shows Hawk Jct in much, much better days. Things are cared for; the station, the grounds, and even the village had a positive appearance. Today, this place is in shambles. The main street is gone; no business left; although I hear rumours the Black Bear Hotel has reopened. Now under CNs control, it is like a wasteland around the railway, which directly affects the community. Freight service is gone, passenger service is pretty well kaput; and if it was not for the fishing, hunting and cabin rentals; Hawk Junction would literally be a ghost town. A real shame. It is the North. Nobody cares. Hopefully a rebound in mining in the general area might put a few of these forgotten communities back on the map someday.
