Snapped at the Glace Bay roundhouse, DEVCO 20, one of only 11 EMC Model 40 300hp locomotives constructed. Built in August 1940, serial number 1134. Originally EMC #10, used at Plant #2, South Chicago, for use as their shop switcher and demonstrator, it made it's way to Canada in May 1951 as McKinnon Industries #10 at the St. Catharine's plant, now GM. The loco would be sold to dealer Andrew Merrilees in 1963 where it would briefly be leased to Lake Ontario Steel in 1965. After which it would head east to the Four Star Colliery at Broughton, Nova Scotia as their #10. It would finish its career with Devco as #20 starting 1969, and finally to the Museum of Industry in Stellarton, NS, in 1991. Information per Colin Churcher’s archives.A 1976 shot of 20 still wearing its McKinnon Industries paint scheme.John C. Benson Photo, Jacob Patterson Collection Slide.
