They say a picture speaks a thousand words, and this one certainly has a story behind it.

Here we see CP 9-118 and F55 beside each other at the east end of the yard in Smith’s Falls, Ontario. A trip was made out this way following word that a CWR would be running westbound with the SD40 pictured here at the helm, and a pair of KCS units that were dropped the previous night by 143. Upon arrival at the falls, we were surprised to see that the F55 crew had hooked their GP20ECO up to the aforementioned SD40 and were doing their day’s work with it. We knew F55 is the ID for the Omya (Glen Tay) turn, so we stuck around waiting to shoot the classic multimark GMD leading west on the job. Unfortunately, the waiting did not pay off as after they had built their train, they dropped the 40 and ran to the Omya plant long-hood-forward with their ECO unit…. Effectively, it was a day and upwards of $90 on gas money wasted.

As for the frame here, this was when F55 was in the process of spotting GP38-2 3051 on a cut of stacks for an eastbound to pick up later and bring towards Montreal. Meanwhile an extra 118 is backing up to drop off 2 cars. Something we took note of while being here is how CP seems to be using Smith’s Falls as a mini-classification yard, with 3 separate eastbounds having both pickups and setoffs at the yard with traffic that has nothing to do with surrounding industries, such as large cuts of intermodal.
