Fresh in from Gillam, MB the HBRY wayfreight has changed crews and begins the busy job of sorting the various loads and spotting them in the yard for unloading. Ex-CN 79858 van is tucked in next to the power and right next to a couple of containers tagged with DOT Placard 1863 Fuel, Aviation, Turbine Engine. It looks like five lucky folks will be claiming their brand new pickup trucks in a few short hours. Other loads ranged from a United Rentals JCB 510-56 Telehandler, a flatcar loaded with pre-formed rebar rods, and several boxcars with unknown cargo. Several of the boxcars were ex-CN double-deck auto tranporters with 9' end doors. (I'll attempt to post a shot of these soon.) Another interesting day of photography in and around Churchill. ????

  1. Absolutely another interesting day of railroading in Churchill MB ! Is the ex-CN van in regular use on the HBRY ? Does it also provide sleeping quarters for HBRY crew ? Your caption is very interesting and shows just how important this freight service is to this community. Now if they can just start shipping grain from Churchill again. Again, thanks for posting, John

  2. Good evening John. Yes, the ex-CN van is in regular service on the HBR. I do not know if it is used for crew accommodation, but I highly doubt it. The two-man crew that brought the wayfreight into Churchill left the engine and went off into town, likely to a motel/hotel. I photographed the same van in Thompson, MB a few days earlier on the way up to Churchill.
