Railpictures.ca - Doug Page Photo: Back in 1990, Hamilton Yard was still a “going concern” operating 13 yard assignments on weekdays, while originating 5 wayfreights (555 to the Halton sub, 556, 557, and 558 to the Oakville sub, and 562 to the Grimsby sub), as well as Mac Yard turn 444 and 725 to Nanticoke. Power for some yard assignments–normally SW1200RS units by this time–was kept in the North Yard (or Parkdale for assignments starting there) while other yard and wayfreight engines (GP9s or GP9RMs) were kept at the Diesel Shop. Train 419 handled Sarnia traffic, train 333 took Black Rock (Buffalo) cars while 332 brought cars from the U.S., with trains 448 and 449 taking traffic between Niagara Falls and MacMillan Yard. With that for context, we see SW1200RSs 1254, 1289, and another “pup” as well as GP9 4371 (built as the 4112) and 4107 (rebuilt from the 4378, originally 4123) awaiting their next assignments at the Hamilton Yard diesel shop in the spring of 1990.
