In 1974, ABS-signalled double track extended east from Calgary to Gleichen, requiring a 24/7 train order office there. On Wednesday 1974-10-02, an eastward freight extra with 4234 and 4478 for power and dead MLW S-3 6573 enroute overhaul at Winnipeg waited for No. 1 The Canadian with 1412 and 1408 to arrive, which it did on time, of course.
