Canadian National ran excursions behind their 4-8-4 class U-2-e steam locomotive CN 6167 from 1960 until 1964.
Here is 6167 at the furthest stop of the Toronto Union to South Parry (and return) excursion of 10 June 1962. 
Details more evident at full size include 2 boys climbing the cab steps, and a crewman in overalls on the platform.
CN 6167 was built by Montreal Locomotive Works in March 1940, working in freight and passenger train  service with CN until 1959.  
Its most dramatic day was 6 July 1943 when it was seriously damaged in a tragic fatal collision.
If not for the wartime conditions, 6167 would likely have been scrapped rather than repaired.  
Reactivated for excursions in 1960, its last run was September 28, 1964.  CN 6167 was donated to Guelph in 1967.

  1. Very nice. During restoration we’ve still found various signs of the wreck on 6167′s frame.

  2. Don’t know how many have notised but the cross rail is two inches higher on the firemans side compared to the enginers side due to the wreck in 1943. Have a look at other photos and you’ll see what I mean .

  3. Also just to the left of the girl on the pilot, just above the coupler pocket a dent can be seen, immediately left of her belt line.

  4. When people walked all over the tracks and nobody cared.

  5. It can be seen that there was very significant public interest in CNR steam excursions. CN from experience knew what to expect, so presumably train traffic through South Parry was adjusted for safety during the stopover.
    Canada has evolved in many ways from 60 years ago.
    Highways and trucking were far less developed.
    CN served all Canada, as a subsidized crown corporation. This included money-losing services and operations on ferry-connected islands and remote areas.
    Older train pictures provide a view into the railways of times past, and sometimes more.
