Caption: So the story goes, on July 12, 1993 a massive fire ripped through the Seagram’s distillery in downtown Waterloo, Ontario. The fire destroyed the original still-house and mill building that faced Erb Street West near the intersection with Caroline Street. Thankfully the Seagram Museum building was not damaged in the blaze.
Later that evening, CN’s 15:30 Kitchener Job with GP9RM 4109 is seen slowly making its way through Waterloo Town Square on the Waterloo Spur as they headed to Elmira. Conductor Rollie is keeping a watchful eye as they approached the fire scene and two barricades at the intersection of Erb and Caroline Streets. To the right of the Waterloo Spur is the CP Waterloo Subdivision, which saw CP making their last run to Waterloo the week prior on the evening of July 6. The times were certainly changing in the city during that summer.
