Only two of the four ex-VIA, exx-CN passenger cars were required on yesterday's KRC 291 Pukatawagan Mixed so KRC 3248 & KRC 5648 remain on VIA Storage Track PZ71 at the south end of the station on this wonderfully clear but cold March 17, 2023 morning in The Pas, MB.

  1. Nice to see these still in revenue service.A very rare thing and I imagine not to last much longer. I suspect some of VIA’s old stock may go to these guys to upgrade.

    Are these still steam heated?

  2. The ex-VIA, exx-CN cars on the KRC Puk Mixed are electrically heated with forced-air furnace heat as backup.
I returned yesterday (October 1, 2023) from another trip to Churchill and The Pas and was able to get some pics of the Pukatawagan Mixed as it arrived in The Pas from the north. :-)
My understanding from a couple of locals is that KRC may be getting some ex-Amtrak double deck cars to replace these old VIA blue units. I’m not so sure ex-Amtrak cars will fair too well in harsh northern Manitoba winters.
