CPR 7060 leads an eastbound transfer from Parkdale Yard up to Leaside, taking orders at Don Station. With its two-position train order signal, showing only proceed and stop, the yellow flag (lantern by night) has been hung beneath the order board allowing the orders to be handed off on the fly. A great book, "OS Don" by John Mellow, details operations around this station very well. Get your copy through the Bytown Railway Society.Looking across the Don River, we can see the Lever Brothers' Soap Factory, built in the 1940s and currently under demolition after failed heritage adaptive reuse petitioning, and farther beyond, the gasometers at Consumers Gas Station B. Station B closed by 1956, with the gasometers being demolished in 1969. Note the Canadian Pacific Express trailer above on the Eastern Avenue Diversion bridge.Scan and editing by Jacob Patterson.
