Okay to come back 25 more!
VIA 001 The Canadian is making its reverse move through CN Snider, ON with the tail end protection person diligently monitoring the movement.
This view from inside VIA 88709 Laurentide Park on December 12, 2021 has the pilot, with radio in hand, sitting on the rear corner table, which houses the emergency air brake valve.
I'm looking forward to getting back on VIA 001 The Canadian one week from today for another cross-Canada and return trip. :-)

  1. Love the new VIA uniform. Who is this guy and why the protective clothing inside the train?? Is he the second engineer? I guess I’ve been away from Canada too long.

    Enjoy your upcoming land cruise!!

  2. Yes, the second engineer. I was trying to be creative in my caption. I shouldn’t have used the word ‘pilot’. VIA engineers now wear shirts/jackets embroidered with ‘VIA Locomotive Engineer’.

  3. When I last saw this operation while riding. park car, the tail end air brake was in the corner table to the right, the lid was open during the back-up move. Guess now the 2nd engineer relies solely on the “walkie-talkie” for guiding and controlling the back-up move. The flowers on the right are nice touch ! Thanks for sharing, John

  4. Wonderful shot ! The inside of those Park-series cars have an almost Art Deco look and appear to be in top notch condition. You’re really putting on some incredible VIA mileage ! Looking forward to images from your upcoming adventure !

  5. Thanks for the comments guys! VIA 88709 Laurentide Park has been rebuilt for Prestige Class service with this very comfortable, pleasantly decorated, and nicely furnished interior.
