Doug Courtney provides us with this image of INCO's GE Center Cab outside the company gates, along Durham St near the weigh scale location. The CN NICKEL yard is in the background with flat cars being stored. The unit displays the typical INCO Yellow paint scheme of the time period. RAILBOX cars were common sights here, as were Western Maryland Boxcars. The locomotive remains on the property today, and is used infrequently to bring tank cars into the facility. It is the last of the GE Center Cabs in Port Colborne having been on site for over 70 years.

  1. Great information, so there is a chance for sighting?

  2. Hi Terry…she does not wander outside the property gates these days…but yes, once a week (maybe longer)…they fire her up and head to the North side of the property to pick the Sulphuric Acid Tank and tow it south to the refinery, up till maybe 2 years back they also received Chlorine tank cars but have since modified the process to eliminate Cl2 (g)…I think there are only 2 center cabs left in Niagara…This one and Welded Tube – Welland…Happy Easter

  3. Thanks, I’ll wander over there next time I’m in Port Colborne. Happy Easter.

Terry… Glenn Cherry did a nice job capturing the VALE GE unit in November 2024… correction.. the tanks are Sulfur Dioxide, not Sulfuric Acid… I should have paid more attention in chemistry class..
