The snow dust swirling down by the hoppers shows the engineer has some speed on the train. As soon as the units have crossed the trestle, the hill up to Redwater starts. The grain extra has 31 loaded cars in tow and will pickup 3 more in Redwater, a nice sized train for these 3 units.

  1. Ooooh beauty winter light!

Pretty neat to see the lead unit fading… some units painted in this era continue to fade into 2025 just like this.

  2. I’ve wondered about the 1065, did it have issues? I have very few photos of it leading and it did not pass through town as frequently as the other ten hundreds. The 1082, 1081, 1076, 1073, 1070 and 1069 pretty much owned the rails on the Coronado. :-)
    Thanks Steve.

  3. Love all your old prairie images!
