Wow…fantastic!
Nice view of a spot on the east side not often seen, it really shows off how high the rail viaduct was and how far east of Union it ran. The siding in the foreground leads downgrade to the Dunlop Tires warehouse off Queen Street, where the Jimmie Simpson Recreation Centre and park are today (part of the warehouse was incorporated into it).
There was similar low level trackage to the west of here for the Riverdale Low Level / “Don Jungle” area near Queen Street.
Fantastic shot. Really captures the rich history of that era. Major changes in the area now. The old Lever Bros and water tower is gone now. It will be replaced by 9 condos. Where the train is passing is now under construction for the new East Harbour train station. When completed East Harbour will be the largest station after Union. 6 tracks will pass over the DVP. 2 for the Ontario Line and 4 fpr Metrolinx
Love the signal bridge!
Wonderful image.
Wow. And that is me hanging out of one of those open vestibules!
