Caption: Of CP’s thirteen Baldwin roadswitchers, the thirteenth, CP 8012, perished due to an electrical fire on 1973-02-19, and four more, CP 8006, 8007, 8008, and 8011, were demolished in a head-on collision on 1973-06-13, so this view on Friday 1973-03-23 shows one twelfth of the fleet. CP 8003 was the assigned 0600 Victoria yard engine for a day after backshop attention, a change from the regular MLW S-3 6573, and is shown northbound from downtown Victoria industries across the Johnson Street bascule bridge visible in the distance.
Directly above the locomotive cab is the barrel roof of the original Memorial Arena, and the Hudson’s Bay department store is the large building next to the right, with the clock tower of City Hall above the third boxcar. The E&N Victoria depot at mileage 0.0 would be visible through the Johnson Street bridge if it had not been demolished in December 1972.
