Caption: A switch crew with CN 8516, a MLW S-13 built in 1959, spots the Via RDC cars at the west end of Toronto Union Station in this August, 1984 view. The imposing stone edifice in the distance is the famous Royal York Hotel. We stayed there once, with a view overlooking the station, and I recall looking down from our room and seeing an extremely long streamliner passenger train that hung out both ends of the trainshed. Not sure why I didn't take a picture? Just to the right of the Royal York is the gold-colored Royal Bank Plaza tower, which used some real gold to manufacture the window panes.
