Any clue what the tracks at upper left were for?
Yeah I have the same question!
Note the CN Tower under construction.
Lots of trackage at CN Danforth, understand that GO considered the CN Danforth shops (at that time in use to repair / store CN track equipment) for repairs / storage. The back tracks in the photo – west of the Main Street overpass – sort of dual purpose, scrap and or track materials transfer as well as allow head room for switching Danforth yard (east of the Main Street bridge). The CN Danforth station survived some years into the GO era and was east of the Main Street overpass on the north side of the Kingston Sub. FYI Danforth Hill appears to have three mains, however the south track (on the left) extended west to the TTR at Cherry Street and was a low speed service track – speed limit 25 or 30, and on one occasion I did ride an eastbound GO on that track – quite the rocky ride!
sdfourty.
Thanks Steve.
I’ve read somewhere that CN stored some old deck plate girder bridges there, some removed from very old abandoned lines.
Old CN track diagrams show the lead as Y203L – Storage Lead, and three siding tracks there as Y203-205 – Storage Track(s).
