Dinner anyone?
The tables are set for dinner on this July 30, 2025 afternoon on VIA 001 heading west from Toronto, ON.
Kitchen/diner VIA 8407 Emerald has been beautifully refurbished and retains a lot of its original 1950's charm in both ambiance and service.
It's always a treat at every meal on board The Canadian.

  1. With the reflections it appears they could sit several hundred for dinner. Beautiful. What a great image!!!!

  2. Thanks Don. While it is a 48-seat dining area, there is only room to seat 40 for each meal in VIA 8407 Emerald. The VIA staff keeps the two booths closest to the kitchen as service tables, and for their own use. This is the same practice I have seen on all my VIA 1 & 2 trips.

  3. A step or two up from the dining car experience on Rail Gang #41 during our first summer working for the railway in 1969.

  4. Yeah, the difference from then to now is quite stark, but both experiences were, and continue to be absolutely enjoyable. :-)
