Great pic of times gone by. Now the roles are reversed and the locomotives pull going east and push going west.
Interesting to see the various industries nearby and a yard full of traffic. And the scene in the distance looks almost rural.
It definitely looks different in 1974! I hired on in 1981 and CN’s Danforth Yard was a shadow of its former self. This is where we practised how to get off and on freight cars. By this time the yard had been turned over to the track department and most of the tracks had been removed. The yard was used to serve various industries in the area. I am not sure if this is accurate but I was told they used to have steam pushers based there to help freight trains get up the hill from Cherry St to Scarborough and westward trains from Guildwood to Scarborough?
John, nice to catch a glimpse of the former CN Danforth Work Equipment shop at the right of the frame.
In March of 1974 when you snapped this pic, I was working at the shop and in the second of four years of my apprenticeship Class A heavy equipment mechanic.

And note the CNR Danforth Depot at extreme left. And push engines needed for Danforth and Scarboro hills (east and west). The CN 4000′s T class 2-10-2′s were primarily assign to push service from the Port Union pocket track to Cherry Street.
