Bringing up the rear of the Toronto-area transfer heading down the Don Branch from Leaside (with CP RSD17 8921 in the lead), caboose 438813 in the short-lived late 60's "Action Script" paint trails southbound at Bayview Avenue, with the Prince Edward Viaduct at Bloor Street showing in the distance in this morning shot. Piggyback and container traffic brings up the tail end, with green CP Ships containers and a Norfolk & Western trailer visible. The head end is probably crossing over the 1/4 mile bridge by the Don Valley Brickworks.

  1. This photo is something we wouldn’t see now. The “Don branch) is a rusting mess overgrown with weeds & cabooses are ancient history. Back in the day, when I would get on a caboose with a low car(s) immediately ahead of it, I would say “I’m in a room with a view”. One trip out of Toronto I had 40 empty flats ahead of the van, destined for Quebec Street for loading military equipment. That was decades ago now.

  2. You can even see the embankment for the old Pottery Rd alignment. What a killer image, my god.
