The winter snows are melting as CN managers evaluate a trio of C&O GP40-2s (4182, 4181, and 4184), using C630Ms 2001 (near), 2000 (far), and CN Research car 15015. The tests must have been successful, for CN ordered 268 similar units (delivered between 1974 and 1976) and eventually acquired 10 of GO Transit's 11 units. (Montreal Yard is an "educated guess" for the location; unfortunately I don't have the exact date or location of the photo.) According to the 2025 Canadian Trackside Guide, 59 GP40-2LWs and GP40-2Ws are still on the CN roster.

  1. That’s not Montreal Yard. That’s Turcot.

  2. I think this may have come from D.W. Clark’s collection, there was someone on a certain auction site selling a similar shot at the same spot, along with a whole lot of other Quebec railfan shots of his.
