Caption: CP 4724 was having a bad day!!! With something stuck open or closed, a couple of runs back and forth on one of the shop tracks at Agincourt Yard, Toronto, Ontario in run 8 with a full set brake, did not solve the problem. The unit was placed in the shop and shut down.

No air quailty issue there? Winter of 1976 I captured CP 4724 working much better leading a westbound detour through Westree.
Maybe ‘just a little’ carbon build-up in the system.
I recall that Westree photo you snapped 49+ years ago …

Back then Terry, you did not care about air quality issues. Now? People would be freaking out.
For sure no issues back then, just keep the windows closed when riding a trailing unit.
Remember the railroad’s operating plan: if it loads, it goes!!! Still valid today.
Rules that definitely hold true today.
