CP 4724 was having a bad day!!! With something stuck open or closed, a couple of runs back and forth on one of the shop tracks at Agincourt Yard, Toronto, Ontario in run 8 with a full set brake, did not solve the problem. The unit was placed in the shop and shut down.

Here is another view of the ailing unit: https://www.railpictures.ca/?attachment_id=37047

  1. No air quailty issue there? Winter of 1976 I captured CP 4724 working much better leading a westbound detour through Westree.

  2. Maybe ‘just a little’ carbon build-up in the system. :-)
I recall that Westree photo you snapped 49+ years ago …

  3. Back then Terry, you did not care about air quality issues. Now? People would be freaking out.

  4. For sure no issues back then, just keep the windows closed when riding a trailing unit.

  5. Remember the railroad’s operating plan: if it loads, it goes!!! Still valid today.

  6. Rules that definitely hold true today.
