I remember – vaguely – reading about the debates in the House of Commons about the Hudson Bay Railway. Quite a few decades after Sir John A had had the foresight to have a rail line built across Canada – when there was a very small population – there were questions about the practicality of building a line from Winnipeg to Churchill.
