Originally, plans were to get a shot of Via 98 at Grimsby. I was aware CN 330 was coming, and was anticipating it to arrive before 98. With terrible backlighting and power typically being not even worth looking at, I did not even get out of the car when the gates went down. The sound of a quickly approaching bronze bell, however, made my heart drop in sadness for a moment, as I knew an old EMD classic was in the lead. It rushed by with CN 5274, 2132 and CEFX 2006. I soon remembered, I could easily beat it to Niagara Falls. I had plenty of time, and Seaway, like it normally does, put the Welland Canal bridge up only minutes before 330 could even get there. I opted for the Beechwood Road crossing just a couple miles east of the start of the Stamford Sub, a crossing I have grown to love. A couple stubborn trees in the way made the sun's projection to the tracks practically non-existent however. So when it was approaching, I was expecting to shoot it with absolutely no sun. Regardless, I was very shutter hungry with this lashup, getting a good 15 photos of it approaching. This was the only one in which the sun managed to hit the nose. Over the past seven years or so, the zebras have been visibly dying off from the CN roster. With the heavy delivery of CN's new ET44AC's, this specific species of zebra may be no more than a museum relic in the not so distant future. 5274 in particular is now just over 40 years old, and is still a mainline unit. Now that's impressive... As for the CEFX unit, most likely, it was picked up in Hamilton and is being being returned to the its leasing owner in the U.S. 330's size has generally been longer lately. 80-100 cars can be expected multiple times a week. This one had 82 cars.
