What year is this - part 1 CN 7304, repaired in the spring and sent to Hamilton is now doing duties at the Hamilton Steel Centre - located between Ottawa St and Parkdale Ave in Hamilton. This is 2015? Pinch me.

Notes on repairs: Loconote gurus have tracked the origins of the repairs made to 7304: Repairs performed at LDS in Sarnia, needed a new engine (cracked block due to improper storage over winter) donor engine was LDSX 7316 nee CN 7316 (which was to become CCGX 7316 per Ulmer) prime mover transferred to 7316. She does sound good, I may add.

  1. Note: This facility is officially known as “CN Metals Distribution Centre”

  2. Thanks gang. In similar news, CP has purchased Steelcare found in Aberdeen yard. Could a similar move be made there (or a switch to an engine?) – similar to the CN Steel Centre Steelcare continues uses a trackmobile.

  3. Nice catch. Great to see her working for her keep.

  4. Used to be sitting at Walker for years and then it up and disappeared. Glad to know it didn’t go for scrap!

  5. Cool catch.

  6. Thanks for the link Stuart – that would seem to explain why the unusual red cab for a 7300-series unit – it received a donor cab!

  7. Clearly this locomotive has nine lives! CN 7304 was almost written off following a head on collision with ONR FP7 1517 in North Bay Ontario on September 9, 1991 (http://www.uwyo.edu/rgodby/trains/northlander/northlander_collision.htm) Long may she prowl!

  8. Nothing says railroading in Hamilton like seeing an end-cab switcher in front of green steel mill buildings with a string of gons…

  9. Doc, we’ve gone back in time!

Seriously, when I saw this I surely thought there was a mistake with the date. Gotta make my way up to Hamilton to see it.

  10. Awesome Catch!
