Steve, did you happen to catch the running number of the crane on any other shots from that day?
Sorry, but I cannot read it on the slide. There was not much running that day at all. My fiance was my driver and I did not want to bore her too much with train watching on her first visit to the Rockies.
Hi Steve. I finally got around to matching your photo to several others in my files.
The crane in your photo is CN 50417 a Wellman/Ohio model DE 400 locomotive crane, serial number 4402, built in 1962.
It was shipped new from the factory to CN in Edmonton, AB on June 22, 1962.
The cranes initial assignment was on CN’s Great Slave Lake Division.
It was surplus to CN’s needs and for sale at CN Kamloops, BC on October 22, 2020.
