  2. LOL@snake.. no I am not back on 524 :-) It was an extra trips as there were no engineers in Pt.Rob to bring the train to MAc Yrd. Urgh..i hate those unit..so uncomfortable and the trailing 2100 had an electrical fire and was shut down. Crappy units

  3. Hey Phil…399 Friday evening…made a lift at Aldershot…middle unit was a freshly painted IC standard cab GP 40 3120. nice . seems bizarre seeing a standard cab GP40 ! Looked good.

    Havent seem a DPU on this side for weeks now…have they stopped?

  4. Hi Greg, I hope you got a shot of 3120? It is indeed rare to see a standard cab these days on CN. I was lucky enought to have operated the 9300 class in both GO and CN service.
    As for the DPU’s, the only train that you may see DPU’s on would be 421 and it operates after 130am. The odd train from Sarnia may be DPU but I have not seen one in months. The majority of DPU’s are on eastbound and northbound trains out of Mac Yrd.

  15. @Greg..yes sir a brand spankin new ET44AC 3114! 371 originates in Toronto with traffic that connects from Montreal as far as I know. The 371 from Montreal normally consists of all auto traffic and changes off at Jane St and does not go into Mac Yrd. It heas west with a stop at Beechville. 371 that originates out of Mac is usually a mixed train (just like 393) with a head end set off at Beechville.

  17. I have always wanted to know: which engines do crews prefer when it comes to choosing between different GEVOs, say an ET44AC or an SD70, like an SD70M-2?

    I know that this is under quite some debate, but from what I have heard, EMDs in general, tend to live longer working lives and suffer from less mechanical difficulties. On the other hand, I quite often see GEs like C44-9s, ES44AC/DCs and even seen a relatively new ET44AC (CN 3074 in particular) which has smoldered and/or burned off paint on their engine doors that goes to prove that they have undergone engine fires.
    Yet, so far I have not heard or seen any of these kinds of things going on with the SD70 family of engines. But what’s the main difference? And why are railroads these days switching entirely to GE power if EMDs, from what I have seen, tend to be more reliable?
