Here is the west to east view of the CN derailment at Bowmanville May 19, 1974. The folks in the house at the right must have found this affair a little disconcerting. The house was torn down just a few weeks ago (Sept. 2016) to make way for a new housing development.

  1. The Bowmanville newspaper, “The Canadian Statesman” reported that the derailment happened about 6pm on Sat. May 18th. It was caused by a broken drawbar on an 84 car westbound. 41 cars derailed.

  2. Our family saw that wreck the next day when the line had been re-opened. We walked down from Bennet Road. If you want a good deal on a new house just take these photos in to the sales office.
