The most interestng thing aboutn this shot to me, is the pups (8100s) on the eastbound with a bunch of autoparts cars. Those units were usually on the east pickup No. 50 which would have a bunch of manfiest freight normally. The traffic looks like 74′s freight from Windsor, which is a through train. It is possible that the “pups” off the west London pickup of the night before that were on hand at Quebec St, were put on the train at Quebec St. to get them back to Toronto.
Another thing to note, the guy grabbing the hoop is most likely the brakeman, with the Conductor sitting in the cupola, hand out the window. I’ll have to dig out my timebooks again, I might even be that brakeman on that day.
The operator looks like the late Earl Fitzpatrick. He was a real gentleman. To me, those were the days, before DPUs and radio clearances etc.. That said, I wouldn’t give up my current job (retirement) for anything.
