BADGER BOUND. The sun breaks through just in time on the bright green Terra Transport inter-modal containers as Mixed Extra 945 West heads towards the town of Badger on April 20, 1987. Having just left Grand Falls on his first Newfoundland train ride and accompanied by his girlfriend, the photographer opened the window on Coach 757 and carefully held his Pentax ME-Super to capture this scene. For the remainder of the journey, all photos were shot leaning out the vestibule as the trainmen had kindly given permission that it was OK to do so. At this point, the train ran parallel to both the TCH and the Exploits River but at Badger the highway would turn north and it would not be seen again from the train until Deer Lake, some 80 miles west. It would also be the last views of the Newfoundland spring until then as the climb into the Gaff Topsails would bring back the still remaining winter vistas.
