While visiting family in St. Thomas, I went out for some railfan time. Not really knowing what train activity was happening, luckily I was able to get some photos of this eastbound Amtrak train. I do not know the name or number of this train. The image captures the wonderful old station and and BX tower in the background. These are all memories from my visits to Grandma & Grandpa in St.Thomas. The station and BX tower have been preserved.

  1. This is Amtrak #64, the “Niagara Rainbow”, in its last few months of life. The last one ran January 31, 1979. It only used Amfleet equipment for its last four months or so – before that, it had E-units and steam-heated equipment.

  2. Good memories. Thanks for sharing, I’m led to believe not much was running in 1978 (just a handful of trains a day mostly C&O/Chessie System trains).

A few years earlier and it was much much busier, like 20-30 a day…
