After departing Dundas West Subway Station and crossing Bloor Street, TTC PCC 4356 operates on an eastbound King run heading south on Dundas Street, passing Bishop Marrocco Secondary School and The Crossways Mall towers. Both still serve as landmarks at the busy Dundas-Bloor intersection today, which got even busier with the opening of the Union-Pearson Express (that stops a stones' throw away at Bloor GO/UPX Station).

Note the water bumpers outfitted to 4356. The TTC outfitted various buses and streetcars with them starting in 1969, basically rubber sacks filled with a liquid saline solution that would pop out of plugs at the top during a collision and help absorb the impact (they were apparently phased out after it was found they were causing corrosion to the carbodies). Our intrepid and unknown photographer is visible at the bottom, no doubt bundled up well on this December afternoon. And yes, that appears to be an early Honda Civic parked out front (a brown 70's hatchback version). You probably won't find too many of those around these parts today, as those early Japanese cars were known to eventually rust to pieces after facing the usual Canadian winters.

  1. That Honda looks like a 75. They were a blast to drive.
