Largest volume of freight traffic here was newsprint paper from the paper mills along the St Maurice River, especially those in Trois-Rivieres and Cap-de-la-Madeleine. The coal tower, roundhouse, some of the tracks, and the adjacent east-side neighbourhood were cleared to make room for Quebec Autoroute 40. The passenger station remains but has been re-purposed. CP has left town; their Montreal to Quebec north shore route is now operated by the Quebec-Gatineau Railway.
