Apologies for nitpicking, but 4116 was rebuilt/chop-nosed (from 4131) in 1984, and the HR412 would have been renumbered from 2583 when it was light-weighted for branchline service in 1987-88. Is it possible this is Feb 1989 or 1990?
A correction from Bill: he rechecked the slide, and it should be February 1988 and not 1980 (correction made).
Was this going all the way to London at this time?
@TheBosnianCanadian – no, the southern extension from initially London (Hyde Park), north to Ilderton, now Centralia, was removed quite sometime ago. This train likely would’ve originated in Stratford, travelled west to Clinton, to the junction, then worked it’s way south to Exeter.
And I believe that the GEXR, who now services Exeter on an on call basis (possibly) – doesn’t go any further south than Exeter. I would assume that the Hensall Co-op is still the biggest customer on the line today.
