"There were 6 Stelco engines disposed of during Jan/Feb 1995. They all shipped CN to Windsor and then CSX to McDonald Ohio for buyer Larry’s Truck Electric.
SW-8 71, 74, and 76; SW900 78, 79; and G.E. 80ton 54.
The G.E. plus 74 and 79 were all in pieces, in gondolas, the others were able to move on their wheels."
Quote above from Mr. Mercer's comment on my previous Stelco submission.
In this image, the front of the cab of scrapped GE 80ton Stelco 54 is visible above the gondola side. The red bell that appears to be above it is part of the CN locomotive on the next track.
GMD SW8 Stelco 76 carries an air-brake jumper hose connecting the railcars on either end of it.
Location mapped is approximate.

  1. Thank you.
Enjoy it while it lasts….my memory that is !

  2. I am very pleased to have helped connect John Parnell’s images of sections of this train with an engineer who handled it for part of its journey, who is a contributor to railpictures.ca, remembers details and passed them on. Thank you.

  3. When these 2 locos plus the gondola finally got to Windsor’s Van de Water Yard, I happened to be the Engineer on CSX train R323 that picked them up (along with many other cars) and took them to Rougemere Yard in suburban Detroit.
I didn’t have any prior knowledge that they were a part of our pickup but when we pulled down the yard lead to double back to our train, I looked back for a moment and saw them.

shows Stelco 78 in this same train.
It’s possible that #78 and #76 are separated by just the gondola CN 157078, if it is longer than the locomotive beside it.
Anyone interested in Stelco locomotives should find this link worth a visit: http://www.trainweb.org/oldtimetrains/industrial/ont/stelco.htm
