It’s hard to believe this shot was taken almost 20 years ago now. Knowing the the days “Ham Turn” was on its way and not expecting anything special on the head end I headed for the tight but scenic bridge shot in Carlisle. Once I saw the consist though the chase was on as I raced for Guelph Jct. On the head end this day was control cab set 3096 / 1102, a GP38 and de-engined C424, with GP40 4657 trailing. Basically in this configuration this day the C424 was just dead weight. Trailing the power though was a brand new “ Freightliner “ unit destined eventually for England and built in London, Ontario. The unit was taking the exceptionally long, scenic route from Chicago back to the GMD plant in London, after spending some time on display at a show there. I’m still not sure why the routing took it through Buffalo rather the Windsor before making it home.
